Shana Gammon, a local author, has published a children's book inspired by a cat she adopted from our shelter. The book is called "Marie's Nine Lives" and is available at Amazon. You can visit Shana's blog www.mariesninelives.blogspot.com.
Free Food available: Thanks to the Wildlife Center of Virginia, we have free dog and cat food available for people who cannot afford to feed their pets. Stop by the shelter during regular hours to obtain food. Containers are located in the lobby.
2011 Splendid Raffle: This year's raffle will be held on March 12 at Prothro at Sweet Briar College. Tickets are on sale now and available from any HSAC board member or at the Adoption Center. This is a great opportunity to have a fun evening and support the HSAC. Good food, open bar, lots of prizes and tons of fun! Every penny benefits the homeless animals of Amherst County.
In August 2010 we officially opened Thrifty Paws, our new HSAC Thrift Store. We hope this new venture will be a huge success and take the place of our annual Rummage Sale. Please call 929-CATS if you have gently used items to donate. We are also looking for reliable volunteers to help in the shop. Thrifty Paws is open Wednesday through Saturday and is located right on 29 in Madison Heights. Look for our green banner with a picture of a bulldog on it!
Memorial Brick Sales:
HSAC is now selling engraved bricks for the walkway at our building. Prices are $50 or $60 depending on the number of lines engraved. Please contact us for an order form; this is a perfect way to acknowledge someone, memorialize a loved one, or send a message that you support the HSAC!
